Attraction Spotlight: Fort Edmonton Park

Posted by on Wednesday, July 8th, 2015 at 10:12am.

Fort Edmonton Park offers history on the area and is located on 158 acres of land. It’s located along the river valley of Edmonton. What once was a Centennial project in Canada in 1967 to rebuild and reconstruct Fort Edmonton grew to be something bigger than that.

Dedicated efforts to the Rotary Club and the Foundation of Fort Edmonton allowed for the park to now include 1846 Hudson’s Bay Fort in addition to streets of 1885, 1905, and 1920 which depict the early history of the area. The park is owned by the city and operated by Fort Edmonton Management Company.

With so much to see and do for the entire family, this can be a great way to spend a nice summer day outside as a family.

Hotel Selkirk

Located in Fort Edmonton Park, this building is a reconstruction of a hotel that dates back to the 1920’s and was located on Jasper Ave. This fully functional hotel offers old-fashioned hospitality and allows guests to enjoy a number of accommodations including WiFi, a desk, En-Suite, a coffee machine and some of the rooms even overlook the 1920’s streets.

Capitol Theatre

This building is relatively new and was designed in the summer of 2011. It’s a recreation of the original which has existed in 1929 and offers a maximum seating capacity of 243 people with 4 wheelchair seats. This building incorporates new construction as well as restored parts of the original building while meeting all code guidelines. You can enjoy live theatre which showcases local actors and technicians in a unique and modern facility.

Ernest Brown Historical Photography

Ernest Brown Historical Photography is located on Fort Edmonton's 1905 street and is next to the Fire Hall. It was originally built in 1890 and in 1982 it was reconstructed at Fort Edmonton Park. This has become a venue that displays artefacts and shows art as old as 100 years.

You can have a unique historic photo taken on costumes from several periods. You can choose from black and white, sepia, colour and even old time colour. You can take your memories home immediately as the print is printed there.

Fort Edmonton Park offers a number of things to see and do and can be a great family fun day.
