Best Edmonton Golf Course Communities

Edmonton has a lot of charm and beauty to it, from the historic buildings in the heart of the city to the numerous cultural experiences. There's plenty to do outdoors, too, including exploring the river valley, ample parkland, and fantastic Edmonton golf courses, including public courses and private clubs. Edmonton's long summer days make it easy to spend at least a few hours on the greens, and some of these courses become cross-country skiing and skating locations in the winter months.

Wouldn't it be excellent to live near the course year-round? Not only is it fun to have easy access to the course, but the greens also make a beautiful backdrop to see out the window. If you've been convinced of the many reasons to live in a golf course community, keep reading to discover four of the best Edmonton golf course communities.

Jagare Ridge

The Jagare Ridge Golf Club is an outstanding location in the Whitemud Creek Valley. It opened in the late 1990s with a championship-level course that took careful consideration of the natural environment in this area. Many of the bunkers, hills, and valleys are, in fact, Mother Nature's creations. It's nestled into the mature trees and valleys to create a very natural-looking course that also happens to be championship-level golf. The golf course has a Par 71 with 4,785 forward length yards and 6,581 tournament length yards. There are 70-foot cliffs and numerous elevation changes up to 80 feet throughout the course.

The golf course features a pro shop and hosts various tournaments throughout the year. It also has professional lessons for men and women and junior camps available. There's a large patio with dining options from the casual restaurant on the grounds. It's a well-maintained private course with outstanding natural elements not found elsewhere.

The golf course is located in the Jagare Ridge community and features elegant single-family homes and estates. Community amenities at Jagare Ridge are impressive, with various walking trails, a stunning waterfall, and a few ponds and open green space parks to enjoy. There are exercise stations and a playground available. The location is near several restaurants and shopping centers as well.

Windermere

The Windermere Golf & Country Club has been a premiere private golf course for more than 50 years. The North Saskatchewan River intersects with the course, delivering beautiful scenery and unique challenges to all 18 holes. The on-site clubhouse, designed in 2009, provides space for members and guests to unwind and connect before or after a round. Just outside, golfers can warm up using the practice facility.

Homes in Windermere, the country club's adjacent neighbourhood, offer something special for residents, including large, spacious homes on quiet cul-de-sacs. There are paved sidewalks and several areas of green space available to residents. It's also within walking distance to Currents of Windermere, a shopping district located in southwest Edmonton.

In a true live-work environment, office buildings, service providers, and other retailers are located adjacent to the homes here. Many of the homes here have golf course views. The homes range in style and size, but many are 2- or 3-bedroom homes with between 1300 and 2000 square feet of space. New construction continues to take place here, too. Tree-lined streets are in the works for many of these areas.

Additionally, there's indoor virtual golf to enjoy when it is too cold outside.

It all sits in the Westbrook Estates community, which was first developed in the 1960s and 1970s, with some homes being built a decade later.
