If you have a new baby on the way, there are several important things you need to consider before buying a home. With this article we will discuss three factors that are at the top of the list. They are safety, community and comfort. Let's briefly discuss each one.

Safety

The one thing you should never compromise on is safety. Yes, you will no doubt have safety measure in place to ensure your child won't get hurt in the home. What about the actual environment you will be living in? Is it safe?

For instance, if you have small children, it is probably not a good idea to purchase a home with a pool. Pools can be extremely dangerous and should therefore be avoided until your children get older.

Community

There is a lot that goes into having a child. When you move into a new home you want to make sure it is in a baby friendly community. Consider the shops that are nearby. If you need public transportation, consider how close it is to the home? Are you close to good day-care facilities? How are the schools rated in the area? All of these things are important when raising a child.

Comfort

What is the comfort level of the home you are considering? Are the floors carpeted or rock solid? Are there a lot of windows that can cause drafts to come in during the winter months? Walk through the home to see just how comfortable it would be for both you and your child.

If this is your first child, figuring out what's considered comfortable may be somewhat difficult. Try to work with a real estate agent that is also a parent. This way they will be able to point out issues you may overlook. As long as you keep safety, community and comfort in the front of your mind, finding the perfect home for your new baby is very possible.
