Elsinore Community History
Located in the northeast portion of the residential neighbourhood called Castle Downs, Edmonton, Elsinore is a community with a brief history named after Kronborg, a castle built in the 1420s in the town of Helsingør, Denmark. Famous English poet and playwright William Shakespeare immortalized it as Elsinore in his play Hamlet.
Prior to urban development and residential construction, the area was largely used for agricultural purposes. Urban development in this Castle Downs area started in the 1980s resulting in homes that are unique and varied in character. Residential development in Elsinore began in the late 1980s. Between 1981 and 1990, a total of 125 residential units were constructed and development of the area continued into the 2000s.
Elsinore Neighbourhood Homes
The Elsinore neighbourhood boasts around 765 residential units including single-detached homes, Elsinore duplexes and row houses. The most popular residential structure type is the single-detached house making up for 75% of the area's residential units. This area, however, still has a few remnant parcels of undeveloped land that have yet to be snapped up by property developers.
Elsinore Community Amenities
Elsinore features storm water ponds and beautiful pathways throughout the community among its vast array of amenities. At the hub of the neighbourhood is a storm water management system but local residents use it as park space. Once completed, the neighbourhood is planned to include a school site and a park complex midway between the Elsinore and Chambery neighbourhoods.
Elsinore has a number of great schools in the immediate vicinity including primary and secondary schools. The other attraction of the community is its excellent location and easy access to the neighbourhoods next-door. Elsinore also offers a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere to its residents with plenty of public spaces and parks. Other local amenities include access to sporting and leisure facilities, supermarkets, independent shops, restaurants and bars. Along with this mix of amenities, tree-lined roads and charming Elsinore homes for sale add to the appeal and affluent feel of the area.
