Overlooking the North Saskatchewan River and nestled south of Westridge and east of Callingwood South, Oleskiw is one of the larger neighbourhoods in west Edmonton.

Oleskiw Community History

Prior to 1972, the Oleskiw community was called Wolf Willow Farms and its history quickly evolved. The neighbourhood was renamed in that year after a man named Joseph Oleskiw. He was a Ukrainian academic and played an instrumental role in promoting the immigration of Ukrainian settlers to Canada, and more specifically to the Edmonton area. The community, which started developing in the 1960s, is arranged in a curvilinear pattern of streets with many of the local roads having names that start with the letter "W". While residential development in Oleskiw is for the most part completed, there are still a few undeveloped properties, which are yet to be claimed by buyers and property developers.

Oleskiw Neighbourhood Homes and Duplexes

As a residential neighbourhood, Oleskiw in west Edmonton boasts some of the most exclusive homes and duplexes available in the city today. The area is very desirable owing to its prime location, gorgeous green spaces, great school options, leisure and sporting facilities and the other amenities that are right at its doorstep. Residential housing here is comprised of 84% single-detached houses, 12% duplexes and 4% town houses. Almost 95% of the Oleskiw homes are owner-occupied.

If you're looking for a great Edmonton neighbourhood, Oleskiw is known as a quiet and tranquil area. The neighbourhood was designed to complement the natural features around it including the Wolf Willow Ravine, Westridge Park and the North Saskatchewan River.

Oleskiw Community Amenities

One of the key amenities of the Oleskiw community is the Edmonton Country Club and Golf Course while a central park site provides residents with an open and beautifully landscaped green space for peaceful relaxing. Many residences of the neighbourhood overlook the golf course.

Other community amenities include a number of independent shops, restaurants and other retail services dotted around the neighbourhood. For sporting and leisure, residents of the neighbourhood have easy access to Callingwood North's Jamie Platz Family YMCA and the Jasper Place Recreation Centre.

Shopping destinations near the neighbourhood include the West Edmonton Mall, which is less than 3 km away, the Callingwood Farmers' Market, Willowdale Place and Jamieson Park. For families looking to move into the area, there are a number of public and Catholic schools nearby. Oleskiw is also excellent in terms of public transportation. Regular bus services in the community operate on 170 Street, Wolf Willow Road and Wanyandi Road.
