Oxford, in northwest Edmonton, is a residential neighbourhood located within The Palisades Area Structure Plan. The Palisades Area Structure Plan consists of the following 6 neighbourhoods: Albany, Carlton, Cumberland, Hudson, Oxford and Pembina. Oxford was annexed to the City of Edmonton in 1982.

Oxford occupies the northwest corner of this area and lies within 4 major roadways. It is bordered on the north by 167 Avenue, on the east by 133 Street, on the south by 153 Avenue and on the west by 127 Street.

Oxford Community History

Following the naming convention for neighbourhoods in The Palisades, the Oxford community was named after a well-known throughout Canadian history Hudson's Bay Company fur trading post, Oxford House, which was established in 1798. As a residential neighbourhood Oxford began to develop in the late 1980's and was designed to feature an interior network of roadways built around a central collector road. This led to the formation of a number of loops and cul-de-sacs to minimize through-traffic within the community.

Oxford Neighbourhood Homes and Townhomes

Most of the Oxford neighbourhood homes for sale are single-detached houses and they account for 87% of the residential units in the area. The rest of the housing is 8% duplexes and 4% townhomes.

Oxford Community Amenities

Residents do not have to go far outside the Oxford community to get to shopping amenities and sporting facilities. Public transit has been well-planned in this area and a number of different bus routes service the area. For soccer enthusiasts, the EMSA and Victoria Soccer Club lie in close proximity southwest of the neighbourhood. Baranow Park, the Knights of Columbus Sports Complex, the Castle Downs Recreation Centre and Cineplex Odeon are also all within reasonable distances.

If homeowners are looking for a neighbourhood where schools are abundant, they'll find them here. St. Lucy, Dunluce School, Caernarvon School, Mary Butterworth School, Queen Elizabeth School and Gil Vicente School are all within the school zones.

In the northern part of the neighbourhood, there is a seasonal wetland. This area is still under development in accordance with provincial regulations regarding wildlife protection. Oxford is a wonderful community that is dedicated to preserving its local wildlife.
