Prince Rupert Real Estate Market

There are few new buildings in the mostly residential community of Prince Rupert and the vast majority of houses (more than 70%) were built in the post-World War II housing boom from 1946 through to 1960. More than half of the homes are single-family dwellings, with approximately one-third being apartments and Prince Rupert condos in low-rise apartment blocks. Of the new buildings, the majority are situated to the southwest of the Kingsway shopping district.

Prince Rupert Community Amenities

Prince Rupert has amenities for all of its residents. The school within the Prince Rupert neighbourhood is the Prince Rupert Elementary School and it is run by the Edmonton Public School Board. There are a number of other schools in the surrounding areas, including the St. Joseph and St. Catherine schools. MacEwan University is just downtown, and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology is just a stone's throw away.

There is a regular neighbourhood bus service that runs from Kingsway Avenue and 111 Avenue, which allows quick and easy travel to Edmonton city centre. For shoppers, the Kingsway Mall is just to the southeast while the Westmount Centre is no more than a 10-minute trip by car. Kingsway Avenue is littered with small cafes and chain stores, making Prince Rupert ideally situated for day-to-day needs.

Of particular interest is the Telus World of Science, formerly known as the Edmonton Space and Science Centre. It holds the distinction of having the largest Canadian planetary dome theatre. With a number of nearby parks like Prince Charles Park, Prince Rupert and Airway Park, and Coronation Park, there is plenty for the outdoor enthusiast. The Alberta Aviation Museum is also nearby and always makes for an entertaining day out in the community.

With great surrounding infrastructure and a central location, it is no surprise that Prince Rupert continues to be a much sought-after Edmonton neighbourhood.
