Callingwood lies south of Whitemud Drive, west of 170 Street, north of Callingwood Road and east of 178 Street. Callingwood in west Edmonton is divided into 2 neighbourhoods that are separated by 69 Avenue including Callingwood North, which is located north of 69 Avenue and Callingwood South, which is located south of the roadway.

Callingwood Community History

The Callingwood North community was annexed to the growing City of Edmonton in 1969 and developed into a residential neighbourhood throughout its history into the early 1970s. The community, which lies directed south of Whitemud Drive provides residents with a straightforward commute to popular Edmonton facilities and attractions such as the University Area, Fort Edmonton Park and Southgate Centre. Callingwood Park is connected to the open space that lies west of the neighbourhood via 2 pathways: the Arrowhead and Kikino Trails. It is also home to the Callingwood Recreation Centre.

Callingwood Neighbourhood Condos

Approximately 40% of the housing in the Callingwood neighbourhood is in the form of low-rise condos and apartment buildings. The remaining units consist primarily of townhouses and to a lesser extent single-detached houses and duplexes. The community features a large and attractive green space called Callingwood Park and most of the retail amenities and services are located in Callingwood South.

Callingwood Community Amenities

In contrast to the community located north of 69 Avenue, Callingwood South is a residential area with its own amenities, character and charm since it is largely commercial in nature. There are a lot of low-rise condo and apartment buildings here and at the hub of the neighbourhood there is an educational and recreation site.

Neighbourhood amenities in South Callingwood include a mix of shops, restaurants, cafes and other services. Notable attractions in the area include the European Market, Rice Bowl Deluxe, Shoppers Drug Mart, Safeway and Second Cup. The neighbourhood is also home to Edmonton's largest Sunday market at 69 Avenue & 178 Street.

Combined, the 2 neighbourhoods feature 5 schools including Callingwood Elementary and Archbishop Oscar Romero High School in North Callingwood and Our Lady of the Prairies, Talmud Torah School and Sylvan Learning of Edmonton in South Callingwood. A number of other schools are also located nearby in the neighbouring communities of Thorncliffe, Westridge, Gariepy, Lymburn and Ormsby Place.
