Located south of Terra Losa, west of West Meadowlark Park, north of Thorncliff and east of Belmead, Summerlea is a community in west Edmonton bordered on the north by 95 Avenue, on the east by 170 Street, on the south by 87 Avenue and on the west by 178 Street. It is a highly fashionable and desirable neighbourhood and home to the largest shopping destination in North America.

Summerlea Community Development

Urban development and residential construction in the Summerlea community started in the 1970s. The majority of the homes were constructed between 1981 and 1990 but residential development continued steadily into the 2000s. Many homes in this part of the city still retain their retro style and appearance.

Summerlea Neighbourhood Condos

Residential housing in Summerlea, which is concentrated in the northern half of the neighbourhood, is made up of 31% single-detached houses, 53% condos and apartment buildings, 10% townhouses and 6% duplexes. Housing is 64% owner-occupied and 36% renter-occupied.

Summerlea Community Amenities

The key attraction in the Summerlea community is the West Edmonton Mall, which is Canada's biggest and best venue for shopping amenities. It has over 800 stores and parking space for 20,000 vehicles. It is estimated that the mall receives 28.2 million visitors each year. This shopping centre with a glass roof boasts an indoor pool and amusement park, an ice skating rink, movie theatres, a hotel and even an underground aquarium. The shopping facility, which covers a total area of 490,000 m2, occupies the entire southern half of the neighbourhood.

Summerlea is as an elite residential neighbourhood known for its entertainment amenities and phenomenal attractions, in addition to being world-famous for its shopping. Alongside good quality housing and the mall, Summerlea is also an incredibly popular residential community because it combines an excellent location with a mix of local amenities.

At the hub of the neighbourhood, a large park lies in close proximity to the mall and offers residents the opportunity to relax in peace after a strenuous day at the mall.

Since Summerlea is home to the largest shopping destination in Canada, it naturally also offers fast and easy public transit to the people living here. Major roadways running along the outside of the neighbourhood provide great connections to the rest of Edmonton. Bus services operate on 87 Avenue, 90 Avenue, 95 Avenue and on 170 Street and 178 Street. The high-traffic West Edmonton Mall bus terminal lies on 87 Avenue, providing easy and straightforward commuting to the University Area, the downtown core of the city and other Edmonton communities.
