Argyll Community History
The Argyll community's history is that it was once part of larger piece of land owned by J. Earner and his family. In the year 1912, however, the land was subdivided and Argyll was one of the resulting sections. In the succeeding year of 1913, the City of Edmonton bought the area and annexed it with the downtown district.
When the Second World War ended, urbanization started taking place in Argyll. Developments lasted until the 1970s and experienced a decline after that year. By the 1980s, residential construction in the area had already been halted. To date there are approximately only 300 houses in the neighbourhood.
Argyll Neighbourhood Single-Family Homes for Sale
Of the 300 Argyll neighbourhood homes for sale, more than 95% are single-family dwellings and the remaining are all semi-detached homes. Despite its small size and limited housing choices, Argyll homes for sale are unique and full of character. The community has one of the highest proportions of owner-occupied homes, with only 16% of the units rented out.
Argyll Community Amenities
Given the size of the community, there are just enough amenities available to Argyll residents. The beautiful scenery that Mill Creek provides is enough to compensate for the low number of facilities inside the area.
Within the vicinity is the Argyll Sports Centre that offers a number of recreational activities for everyone. The rest of the amenities that are enjoyed by residents are outside the neighbourhood but at the same time close in proximity. School children in Argyll attend either one of the following nearby schools: Avonmore School or WP Wagner School. Other amenities that can be found close by include the Commonwealth Stadium, Tim Hortons, Casino Edmonton, and the Edmonton City Centre (Blatchford Field) Airport.
In terms of healthcare for Argyll residents the closest option is the Grey Nuns Community Hospital. Retail shops and services are available in the nearby Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre and Southgate Centre. Other businesses can also be found along Argyll Road. Aside from these amenities, if you love to go to the movies you can reach the Empire Theatres and the Magic Lantern Princess Theatre in 9 to 15 minutes by bus or car.
