Kenilworth is separated from these industrial areas and other communities by the following arterial and collector roadways: 90 Avenue to the north, 50 Street to the east, 82 Avenue to the south and 75 Street to the west. Idylwylde and Ottewell are the other neighbourhoods within the immediate vicinity of Kenilworth.

Kenilworth Neighbourhood History

In the 1900s, the Kenilworth neighbourhood was named after the 1912 castle Kenilworth in the county of Warwickshire and has an impressive history. The development of Kenilworth began shortly after World War II. At that time, the area that encompasses this neighbourhood was not yet annexed to the city. When the plan was laid out to put up two industrial subdivisions around Fort Saskatchewan, the Kenilworth site was allocated for residential purposes. Towards the end of 1960s, when almost all residential construction in the community had already been completed, the area was finally annexed to Edmonton.

Kenilworth Community Homes

Approximately 80% of all Kenilworth community homes are single-family detached dwellings that are occupied by their owners. Other homes for sale are mainly duplexes. There are also a couple of low-rise apartments and Kenilworth condominium buildings in this community.

Kenilworth Neighbourhood Amenities

Although the Kenilworth neighbourhood is highly residential, commercial establishments and amenities have also been constructed around the area in recent years. These commercial structures are separated from the residential part of the community with a landscaped buffer.

Education, shopping, food, and other leisure activities are not a problem for Kenilworth residents. The southern part of this community is mostly occupied by a commercial strip just along 82 Avenue. Towards the centre of the neighbourhood you'll find Kenilworth Park and Kenilworth Arena. The former is ideal for leisurely walks, biking, and other outdoor activities. The latter houses an open field and an enclosed area for a number of sporting events.

There are also 3 schools within the neighbourhood including Waverly Elementary School, Kenilworth Junior High School, and Ecole Jeanne D'Arc. All of these schools are easily accessible through strategically-constructed interior roads. Kenilworth is bordered by major avenues providing residents with quick and convenient access to neighbouring communities that feature other amenities like schools, shopping centres, and services.
