Located off Whitemud Drive and immediately south of Fort Edmonton Park, Brander Gardens is an exclusive and desirable neighbourhood in southwest Edmonton. It overlooks the North Saskatchewan River and associated valley and ravine system.

Brander Gardens Community History

Formerly known as Glamorgan, the Brander Gardens community was added to the City of Edmonton in 1960 enhancing its already rich history. Shortly afterwards, city council approved the plans for urban development and residential construction according to the Riverbend-Terwillegar Heights Outline Plan. A subsequent development boom in the 1970s led to the construction of over 80% of the houses in the neighbourhood.

Brander Gardens Neighbourhood Townhomes

Brander Gardens is a charming and exclusive neighbourhood arranged in a primarily curvilinear pattern of streets and cul-de-sacs lined with townhomes. The idea behind the urban design of the area was to promote a pedestrian-friendly community and simultaneously minimize traffic congestion within the neighbourhood. Residents also have access to the nearby valley and ravine system via a system of walkways, bikeways and natural trails.

Residential housing in the area is mostly medium and high-density dwellings. With plenty of Brander Gardens condos and townhomes to choose from, this area is perfect for first-time buyers. There are also single-family homes available and about two-thirds of the housing is owner-occupied.

Brander Gardens Community Amenities

The Brander Gardens community is conveniently located near a lot of amenities. Bordered on the north and on the west by the North Saskatchewan River, on the east by Brookside and on the south by Ramsay Heights, one of the main attractions of Brander Gardens is its prime location. The neighbourhood is located just off Whitemud Drive, which is the main east-west high-traffic road in southern Edmonton. It has great access to other surrounding arterial roadways including Fox Drive, 53 Avenue and Riverbend Road.

Important Edmonton facilities and attractions that are easily accessible from the community include downtown Edmonton, Edmonton Centre Mall, NorQuest College, the University of Alberta, West Edmonton Mall and the Southgate Centre.

The neighbourhood features 4 schools including Brander Gardens School, St. Monica, Riverbend School and Tempo School while other schools located nearby include Brookside School, Grandview Heights School and Jasper Place High School.

Brander Gardens Shopping Plaza, Brander Gardens Park, the Riverbend Athletic Club and Riverbend Square Shopping Centre are all in the neighbourhood. If homeowners are looking for other fun activities for the family they can enjoy the day at Fort Edmonton Park, the John Janzen Nature Centre, Rainbow Valley Park, the Snow Valley Ski Club, or the Rainbow Valley Campground.

Some of the historic sites here include Fort Edmonton Park, the Fort Edmonton Carousel and the Mellon Farm. You can find these spots in the northern part of the community near River Loop Trail. Both residents living here and visitors from other parts of the city appreciate the history behind these attractions and the stories that they have to tell.
